Single 4 ohm DVC wiring help

The more I read, the more i'm confused. Currently I have it wired to a 2 ohm load, but my amp overheats and truns off after about 45min. of listening to it. I didn't realize it was 2 ohm stable in bridged mode. So basically what would be my best option to wire it? Sub is a Fosgate P3 10".

2-channel car amplifier

200 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms (250 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms)

500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)

wire the voice coils in serial and then bridge mode on amp, giving you 4 ohm load at amp.
So just so I'm clear. Wire the sub in a series which would make it 8ohm, then when I bridge it to my amp, it'll drop to 4 ohms?

It's still 8 ohms, but when you bridge the amp into a single load the impedance is effectively "shared" by the two channels so you get the combined 4 ohm stereo power (200x2 or 400w total) into the ONE 8 ohm load.

The same way bridging the amp into a 4 ohm load gets you 2 ohm stereo power (250x2 or 500w total) combined into one load.

And with your amp not gaining a whole lot of power going from 4 ohms stereo to 2 ohms stereo you're not losing much.

FWIW - running it at 4 ohms stereo - one coil per channel - will work too. IMO bridging is preferable because it removes the possibility of getting different signals to each coil.

GOT IT!! thanks. Well now i know why it hits so HARD like its wired up now. I would have never thought a cheap sony amp could handle it like it is now.
