Looking for any suggestions here on a new sub. Just got a hold of an older PPI PC1400 which does 800x1 at 2ohms. Currently I am running an Eclipse 8122 off a PPI PC2150. I am looking for something louder than my current setup, granted I am running my sub sealed and porting alone will probably make it louder! I like the eclipse and have thought about stepping up to a titanium. Like most I have heard the JL W6/W7 models and I liked them, but the price is just insane and I prefer to buy from a store to ensure warranty coverage. What else is there? I listen to all music so a solid all around peformer is desired. I thought about an RL-P or an IDMAX before I got the Eclipse.

thanks for an input!

Go with the RL-p port it and you will be happy. It gets loud and sounds real good. Every one that sits in my car likes it they all say how tight it is. I have it in 2.1sq ft ported to 32hz and love it. I am going to make it in to a HT sub because I want more room in the back of my car. But I am still going with soundsplinter. I am going with 2 RL-i 8s.

Mike is a great guy, I dont think anyone has better customer suport.

Good luck with what ever you pick.

MJ

i would strongly suggest porting the sub you got now around 28-32 hz. the rl-p would be a good. choice they work really well off that power and are an all around performer. the idmax is a nice sub but the rl-p is cheaper //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

that's all that I have heard surrounding Soundsplinter is how great they are to deal with. I strongly considered the RL-P before I got the eclipse but I was able to get the eclipse new in box for under $100 shipped so I went that way. Maybe this time around I will just go for it and get the RL-P!

If I were to port the sub I have now then the amp I just bought will got to waste. I have the 4 ohm SVC version of the 8122 so it is getting around 600 watts off my PC2150, if I used my new PC1400 the sub would only be getting around 400 watts. Regardless of what I get I think I will be porting the next one.

what does porting have to do with the power you're going to get? did I read something wrong
in my first post I mentioned that I bought a new amp(PPI PC1400). This amp delivers 800 watts at 2 ohms and 400 watts at 4 ohms. My current amp does 600 watts at 4 ohms mono, and my current sub is 4 SVC. Therefor regardless of enclosure type right now my sub is getting 600 watts, were I to switch to the new amp it would only get 400 watts.

I started this thread by mentioning that I want to get something new, one of the responses was to port the sub that I already have and my response was then I would not be able to take full advantage of my new amp.

Might have been some confussion there, hope this clears it up!

my pc1400 did 400w @2ohms.
Is it the chrome or silver heatsink? The first gen PC series amps in the gun metal grey heatsinks had a different naming convention. For this series the PC1200 did 400 watts at 2 ohms where as the PC1400 did 800 watts at 2 ohms. For the chrome and silver heatsinks the PC1400 did 400 watts at 2ohms and the PC1800 did 800 watts at 2 ohms. The amp that I have is the gun metal grey amp.
