Simplicity

This is why I asked, I like the Clarion CZ 702 and the Kenwood KDC BT362U, so that ultimately is my final choice unless there is something used that anyone wants to throw down. From what I can tell, both have USB (Kenwood in the front, Clarion in the rear) Aux (both in front) 6 Channel outs, and the same price. The Kenwood however can work with my droid.

IF your talking about bluetooth capabilities with your droid. They can both do it. You might be talking about something special that the kenwood has for pairing with droids. i dont know much about em nor feel like looking :p

a note about bluetooth. Its a form of compression and cuts off the high and low end of a signal. In other words. Itll make your music sound like ****. If you know someone who has a system with a subwoofer and bluetooth capabilities. Hook up your phone via bluetooth. Play a song with bass. Then hook up via a direct connection USB/Aux and listen to the same song. Its totally different. Bluetooth is not for SQ.

you could get a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X998 which has time alignment and 24 DAC for around $200 on ebay. Thats if you want the SQ qualities and ability to plug into your android.

I hate to say this but your gonna have to step up your budget. I set you out a list with all used hardware and its still coming pretty **** close to being spot on 850.

Car audio is expensive. Through and through :/

We are saying the three ones we mentioned on page 2 because they have 24 bit converters and time aligment. 2 things you ABSOLUTELY want for an SQ build

Between the two though. its a toss up. the clarion has a higher bit rate(itll sound better) and time alignment but you dont have a way to play music the way YOU want too

The kenwood has a 16 bit converter which is...alright and no time alignment but can play music how you want.

however you could load the music you want onto a USB flash drive and plug it into the back of the clarion.

I just saw that the kenwood has 16 bit vs the 24 of the clarion, thank you for the patience. The Clarion it will be for me.
i'd say bump it up to an alpine 147 bt. Reason why is the clarion is not user friendly in the interface. The alpine is basically the same in audio features but much easier to use and live with. Simplicity is the name of this thread anyways.

I'll be doing a project thread that will include a USB extension to the inside of the glove compartment so I can fit a capacity thumbdrive that is out of the way.
Nice, I just put in my deh-prs80 the other day and it has a rear usb as well. i had to run a usb extension from the HU, screwed a hole in my lil dash pocket and hooked up to my ipod from there.

not my car but you can see the pocket on the bottom

piece of advice. Disconnect your battery when you install your HU. Ive had a kenwood that went into protect when i wired it hot. I was able to get it out of protect but that experience plus being related to an installer whos taught me to disconnect the battery when doing anything electrical. ITs now a rule of thumb i follow. and never take out or put in RCAS when your head unit is on or when the key is in the ignition. Its called hotswapping and can screw things up.
