simple porting question

Trust me......the bass will find its way out............I usually try and raise the part where the sub is about 3 inches above floor if mounting depth is still there for sub......This enclosure was pounding in the cab of the F150 it was installed in and BOY would she play the low notes.....

2 2" ports do not equal one 4" port... 2 2" ports are half the port area of a 4" port. Even a 4" port is really not enough port area for a 12" eclipse titanium you really need at least a 6" port if you can.

wow alright if I build it down firing it will have a slot port I will just have to calculate the size I need based off of a 6 inch round port.

A 6 inch port seems pretty large

you have 2.2 cubes to work with after sub displacement? if you do a slot port you'll just be eating up precious cubic feet for the sub, id do an external 6" aero.

EDIT: oh wow this is going in the center console? You'll be fine with a 4" port then a 6" would be way too long. If you did a 4" you wouldn't need to do an external port

32hz is good, how much power you running? If your only going to do 1 4" port make sure you face the port away from you. With only 12" of port area you will probably get port noise. Make sure you use aero ports as well don't just use pvc, aero ports will help with port noise.

If you can make the box a little bigger you could pull off a slot port. It may be easier and you'll be able to gain a lot of port area. Id shoot for at least 28". The port displacement will be around half a cube so you really need to make your box bigger if you want to do a slot port.

For a slot port I can build on the top of the box and style it into the console so it wouldn't take away from the cf of my box design. I am looking at a slot port about 9 inch wide 2.5 inch tall and 23 inch long which would be 32hz sound about right

If you have the room for it, sub down with a slot port down as well. If done correctly will work out nicely, but with a 12" you may be a bit limited.

I didn't look to see what year/make/model you have, but I have done this several times with great success. I have also done several sealed down firing enclosures that work great.

The issue you will find yourself in with the eclipse is ensure you have clearance. Those will move a lot if you are giving them enough power.

As for other ideas I have read/seen in this thread. Meh, they will work as well as I have done a few of them. Just not my choice.

If you want when I get back on Tuesday I can do some modeling and gauge the response of a few options in your actual application. Takes out a large part of the guess work.
