Silverado OEM Head Replacement

Hey everyone, new user here, so be gentle.

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado with a stock CD, Cass, BOSE system. I want to be able to play my iPod in the truck. I don't need to control the iPod with the head. To get an replacement, I have to get some special modual so that the door chimes and instument cluster will work. ($100 or more)

My question: Can I replace the 2003 OEM with a newer ('05, '06 etc) that has an aux input on the front, and be done with it. I figure that I can pick one up at the salvage yard for less than the combined cost of the new head & the modual and other shop supplies.
