signal levels, hu, amps and guitars

so what kind of signal level comes out of a hu with 2v's? and what range of input voltage would an average amp accept? i was thinking of hooking up my guitar to the car audio. knowing that consumer audio is -10dbv think it wold all work together? that is -10dbv and instrument level signal?
