Sickest tools evar!

Festool stuff is top notch. And I think that great tools CAN make you a better carpenter. With properly working equipment I am able to work the project without worry about compensating for funky vibrations chattering my router cuts, a flexy fence compromising table saw accuracy, etc. Great tools won't make you a great carpenter, but crappy tools will hurt your abilities. Many guys (myself included) can put out awesome work with cheesy tools, but I challenge any wood worker to choose cheap equipment over better equipment for any reason besides the tool budget. If you have the $$, then get good stuff. And if you have the ability, you can make the $$, just put those tools to work once in a while.

Since seth used mine, all use npdang's

You can buy great sounding stereo equipment, but you can't buy a great sounding car.

I think you see such hostility because we don't use the tools in such a way to justify the price. I can afford a $1,200 componet system, but I can't use it a way to improve the sound. Ask 6speed, as we had this discussion.

Well said....you got the point across better than I did. I used to be one of those guys that felt you didn't need to buy the "expensive" stuff to do the job just as good. Thats only half right. You don't have to have them but boy do they make thinks ALOT easier to accomplish. Expense is relative too. If a tool can be considered a lifetime tool and worth repairing instead of just throwing it away and buying a new one, products like Festool's can actually be cheaper in the long run. Another thing I think is missed is how many saws that plunge cut saw and guide rail actually replace. It is a table saw, a circular saw, a radial arm saw, and a mitre saw rolled into one, provided you know how to use it. Even if you bought cheap versions of all of those saws you would still be out alot more money.

So that should warrant hostility toward someone just trying to share info???

If I posted a picture of a Ferrari (which probably none of us can afford, or use in a way to justify the price) would that be grounds for being a prick too?

Growing up is hard to do.

Yes, ask pitbull. Welcome to the forum, I guess.

We would buy it in an instant if it had Fi on the side...

Good point I suppose. I mean I am in a "room" with a largely disproportionate amount of "kids" versus adults too. I like this forum a great deal, there is alot of good info here. You have to do alot of weeding to get to it sometimes though.

Welcome to the internet too, I guess //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I, for one, enjoy working with nice tools. Whether they be for wood working or for any other purpose. I don't use much of any tools for a living, I do however do some wood and metalworking as a hobbyist. Using good tools just makes the hoby so much more enjoyable. Stuff does what you expect. Cuts are straight and clean every time. You don't spend a ton of time on setup only to have the tool ruin your work. You can get really good results with average tools with a lot of work. You can get the same results with less work with better tools. That and their is the pleasure aspect. I get much more pleasure working with good tools, mare than working with run of the mill stuff. Since I do this for the enjoymnt of it, it makes perfect snese to me to spend some money to enhance the enjoyment.

Oh, and Paul, don't take a lot of the folks on here too seriously. Some of the same ones that are saying the tools are too expensive are the same ones that spend 2x the cash on power wire because it is more flexible...

But do you think that enhancing the enjoyment is caused by spending 500 dollars on a circular saw when a 100 dollar one requires the exact same amount of effort?

If you think that the plunge cut saw is a $500 "circular saw" you need to borrow some cash and go buy yourself a clue.

Is spending the $500 itself part of the enjoyment? Possibly. I like buying tools and other things that will last me forever. If the average stuff was good enough, there simply wouldn't be a market for the high-end.

It's like shooting a rifle. I have a very accurate bolt action rifle. It hits where I aim every time. 2-3" grouping at 200yds, every time. It was far from expensive, in fact when it was made it was considered one of the most under appreciated rifles on the market for the simple reason that it was over looked by most because of its very low price (about $250 IIRC, it's been close to 14 years since I got it). My stepmom gave my dad a really nice Styer rifle for Christmas 2-3 years ago and I got to shoot it. The price was close to 5 times that of my rifle. It wasn't any more accurate. But it was an absolute joy to shoot. It was balanced better. The trigger pull was smoother. The action was smoother. My rifle is not deficent in any of those areas but this one was just nicer.

Some people like to have nice things for their hobbies. It's the nature of a hobby.

You're right on the money. Hobbies don't have to make sense, it's just something we do for fun. I have a bicycle that cost a stinkin fortune, when I built it it was worth double the amount of the truck I was driving.

We live in a great time and place. How many people in the world can afford to spend thousands on things with no practical use whatsoever? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/patriotic.gif.b47a6e0394a3738334c387bdf79409f4.gif

This guy has it right on the money, i dont understand how all of you got so riled up about such a simple subject...

All this bashing is coming from a group of people that is known to spend Huge amounts of money on high end cables, does it really make that much of a difference? Probably not, but does it make a difference, Theres people that claim it does.

I've never used these tools, but do they make a difference? They probably do, I've heard some good things about them, its all about how devoted you are, how much money you have to spend, and the sacrifices your willing to make.

Oh and Helotaxi:
