seriously religion still thrives because people are weak. there is not one person on this earth that wants to be alone. we always want to think someone out there cares about us. when all else fails god will be there to take care of us. that is why it thrives. and that is totally fine with me. people need something to believe in, great. but dont look down on me for not being so **** naive thats all. this great relgious debate only happens because i think you are stupid for believing and you think im stupid for not believing.... if we all just didnt give a crap what other people think this debate wouldnt happen. if i didnt constantly get jehovahs witnesses coming to my house bothering me, constant lectures from my grandma, or guilt trip upon guilt trip from other religious people i wouldnt detest religious people so much. and if religious people would just admit that its possible they are wrong then you wouldnt hate me so much. fact of the matter is you dont know and i dont know. we both dont know. and im not going to simply "double down" and take the safe road and believe just in case.
i think that 2.1 billion number is very very bloated. ALOT of those people simply believe as an insurance policy. i dont know how many times ive been told that people go to church, "just in case". and then theres the people that believe just simply because their parents told them to believe, like my grandma. she grew up in the south, you went to church, you believe in god and thats that. you question it and bam you ****.... so take out all those people and i gurantee the amount of people that are actually educated in religion that truly believe would be in the millions and not the billions.

Why do people argue about religion? The people who aren't religious shouldn't give a **** and the people who are should realize that arguing with some one who dislikes some one because of their creed is the same as arguing with someone who dislikes some one because of their race. You aren't going to change any ones mind.

Edit: I guess I just don't understand because I think any one who believes in Bigfoot, Loch ness monster or little men from outer space are damm fools. but I don't care if they do believe in them.

I don't freak out because they have the "hunt for blank monster" on t.v. and it offends me. I don't care if they have anything about it in the schools. I don't care if they make a statue of bigfoot as I don't believe in it so why should I care. I wouldn't care if they put "In bigfoot we trust" on the dollar bill.

But I do wonder why people who don't believe in something fight against it so hard.

ok... a special that is on television right now is why i laugh at religion. its easter.... isnt it supposed to be a happy day? well this minister im watching right now on fox did nothing for the last 30 minutes is show scary skits about hell. the whole special was to scare you into believing. not to spread the word of how great christianity was, but to scare me. what a fool oh and in 2 minutes of infomercials he just tried to cell me a 50 dollar book, a 100 dollar book, but offer me a free one as a gift... haha

he read this story about how they found hell in siberia, so i googled it..he left that as fact..... what he didnt do was finish and tell the entire congregation that it was all bullshit......

Okay, first off, I read parts of other threads bashing religion and evolution and such. I felt like I needed some insight anyway.
So I'm an Atheist/Anti-theist. You have the right to celebrate whatever religion you'd like. I can respect that right. . . as an American, but also as a human being. On the other hand I can't really understand it. It seems crazy to me (and you absolutely may disagree) that people dedicate so much of their time to something that does not exist. It'd be like me claiming that some little blue-skinned people inhabit my back yard. There's no way around it. They don't and he doesn't. I get that it's "faith" that carries religion along its way. What's the point of having faith in something non-existent? Seems wasteful to me. There are so many real causes in the world that need more dedication.

Secondly, why do people lie to children? Santa exists? No. The Easter Bunny? The Tooth Fairy. No and no. So why do we tell children that they do? Why not fill the heads of children from a young age the truth about the world? People are hungry. Help them. People are wasteful, don't be. People are greedy. Don't be. . . which includes expecting gifts for Holidays based on disillusion. I don't have kids yet, but mine will not be lied to. At least that's what I say when my fiance isn't arguing with me about it.

Why must we support corporate greed and lies based on tradition? I guess I just needed to vent. I'm sure I could go on and on.

Just answer this, do you honestly think a man 2000 years ago could survive savage whippings, starvation, water deprevation, other forms of torture and beatings, crucification for hours, and a stabbing by a spear while crucified. Then be able to awaken and move a boulder that enclosed his tomb, and live after. A man today couldnt survive that.
