should i worry about not having a SSF?

hey i have an mtx 1501d running in 4 ohms with a 12-inch idMAX. the gains are set properly and it is in a 2.0 cubed ported box tuned to 32 hz. i dont play test tones.. i listen to my rap n hip hop pretty loud.. not clipping loud. do i really need a subsonic filter? will i hear an audible difference in doing so?

yes... you should have one because it will eliminate frequencies below your tuned freq... these freq can damage your sub

but i think i read Jmac stating that i shouldnt worry if my tuning is below 40 hz or something like that? just asking for second opinions and to clear things up with the detailed information i gave above.

My SSF only went down to 40hz, but my tune was at like 33hz so I said F$%^ it, I think it only really protects at high volume when you're pushing the sub very hard.

unless u blast test tones of like 18hz at full power then u should be fine for normal music

Basically, just don't play any bass tests or test tones below 24 Hz and you should be fine ...
