should i be worried about this setup?

ive got 2 mtx 5500 12" subs, and ive got my amps gain setting at 70% or so, my HU is an alpine, and a crappy 2 V. i dont like a lot of volume, it hurts my ears a lot more than bass, so i normally listen to my alpine at 14/35, or 40%. With that, i really doubt im getting much of anything volt wise outta my HU, so i have my bass boost at about 35-40%. Is this still that big of a deal? i dont hear any distortion, it sounds perfectly natural to me. And i have heard clipping/distortion before, my old setup i had one of those 300$ audiobahn setups off ebay, and i knew nothing about car audio, so i cranked the bass boost, (sh*tty SQ, lol)

if you are not cranking the volume, and it sounds somewhat clean to you without distortion, then you should be fine. reason i say this is you say you dont turn the volume up. if you cranked the volume it would put some strain on the amp and end up with clipping.you will be fine with the way you listen to it

well, i had my bass boost down after reading about all the problems it caused, but i really wasnt doing much spl wise, then as i read into it more it seemed like some of the problem was ppl turning the volume up like 3/4 or higher, and i was curious if some bass boost was ok will lower volume, thanks for the input

I always assume bass boost is fine if you take it into account while you're setting your gains. You can't set your gains and go "ah, all set", then crank the ****ing bass boost knob and expect your subs not to blow to shit. At least that's what works for me, set the bass boost, then your gains, and listen for distortion. Hope that helps, I listen the same way with my setup, lower volume, lots-o-bass.

like i said, you dont crank it so you will be fine. how does it sound to you thats what matters as long as you dont abuse the equipment.
