Hello all, currently I am running the equipment in my sig and Im changing cars soon. I love my truck being loud, and it sounds decent but I was woundering if I have the symptoms of wanting an SQ system. I always wish my truck would blend more evenly, I start to pick apart my sytem and tune it as much as I can to stage it better. I was woundering if I should venture into SQ systems, even if I still enjoy it loud. I listen to Rap, with the ocasional everything else (yes even country). Would an SQ system do me any good if I listen to rap alot?

Currently I want to run:

-Pioneer Avic D1

-MB Quart QSD216's

-Fi audio 15" Q Sealed

-Memphis 16-MCH1300

-Lots of Second skin

Would this be considered SQ? (Obviously not top of the line)

Would that system do well With the rap?

Should I even bother with the SQ set up or continue to run what I have?

Any advice or input would be apreciated, and if it makes a diffrance the car is a 91 Integra.

I'm in the exact same boat. I just went from an 18" re mt with a kicker 2500.1 and passive germanium setup and now I'm working on a 3way active with 3 mb quart 12's and a ton of sound deadening. I think I'll enjoy it a lot better since I like to hear as much detail as possible but at the same time like listening to it loud.

SQ is totally subjective.

Based on your list, I would say you're headed in the right directions.

Remember, it's 7 percent product, 92percent install, and 1 percent beer intake during install.

Are the HU and amp I picked capable of running active? Would I need to buy a EQ or 3sixty.2 or something along those lines to do it?

The headunit is not.

And that's the Memphis Belle, correct?

I don't think it can bandbass, to be honest.

And I would recomment the 3sixty. I love it, and tuning is a breeze.

indeed. i think your headed in the right direction. to me, SQ is what i think sounds good to me. unless you plan on getting into comp's and what not, if you are happy with the sound, then who cares what everyone else thinks.

Well maybe I will just run the Quarts passive. I know car audio but I should keep my set up some what simple. I get the whole install part I just dont know what to look for in terms of equipment to run active. Anyone know of any 4ch that has a matching mono block that can run active? also is the alpine 9855 able to go active If i choose to go that route?

there are response graphs, harmonic distortion, and other measurable criteria that can be attributed to sound quality. among that there is a general consensus which makes it possible to discern a sound system that faithfully reproduces sound versus one that does not. is there room for personal opinion and preference? absolutely, but while two blown pioneers may sound great to you, they are most likely far from producing a high quality reproduction of the recorded sound.

yes i know that warmth can be distortion etc. and i know how ambiguous this explanation is... take it for what its worth i guess.

Care to argue that?
SQ is, of course, related to personal preference. They are one in the same in this instance.
So we are changing the definition of SQ to fit this discussion?
"SQ" is common sense terms, and in car audio competition terms, is accuracy in reproduction of the original recording. Even in a competition, do "SQ judges" simply judge but what they personally prefer? No, they listen for tonal accuracy, staging and imaging accuracy, etc.

I know a guy that simply loves the sound of distortion. Seriously, gross amounts of it. Does this, because its what he likes, also constitute 'sound quality'?

Again, personal preference, and SQ, are two different things entirely. Its a fairly ambiguous point by now, Im sure everyone gets my drift.

x2

a lot of people think "if it sounds good, then it has good sound quality"

wrong!

Ok let me throw this out there. I want the system to be able to rank highly in a SQ comp. Eventuly I wanted to compete in a SQ comp. I know alot of it is how well the install is and stuff but equipment helps.

This will take awhile for you. I recommend going to diymobileaudio.com and reading as much as possible. You can have a really nice sq vehicle without super nice/expensive equipment but you will spend a lot in sound deadening and processing.

Build kick panels for your mids and tweets. Run dedicated midbass in the doors, and a sub stage that is capable of blending well with that front stage without over powering it. That's a pretty good start for a traditional "SQ" setup.
