New possible Box design


tuned to 40hz

The port and sub have to be close to each other due to clearance issues on the sides.

Any comments, anything i should change?

40 hz sounds good since the Young Jeezy songs are near that range almost alll the time

i really wanna try sub up port back, do you xperts think that will work good or should i just go port back sub back?

port back sub back usually does it's justice, sub up would cause some cancelation in the wave prolly and not be as loud maybe

yea ive heard over and over that sub up port back in trunk cars is not a good idea and should only be used if it is the only route you can go...

question tho...how are your components keepin up with the sub? and how many watts you have goin to em? just wonderin cause im gettin 2 HD3 15s soon and am curious

the type-r's are getting about 80 watts.. there in a sealed kickpannel yet for some reason when i turn it up they still distort when trying to keep up with my HD3.

maybe if i had my rear fill speakers in it would be better,

dont get me wrong, just a pair of these 6.5 comp sets get pretty loud but in my opinion, they dont keep up with the HD3's spl

on the other hand 2 pairs with recommended power might do fine.

well i guess ill redesign a box...

just cut up 3 ft^2 of wood to make my baffles, but they wont fit if i face em back =(

o wells back to the drawing board. ill show you guys some ideas later.

my HU only puts out 2 voltsso my gain in about 3/4 up

bass boost is up no more then 1/2 way

and sub woofer output on my HU is at 6 out of 15

you should put subwoofer output to 15, then reset your gains which will be much lower but with the same output to put less strain on the amplifier

i have 2 volt preouts too, and with my sundown1500 i only have to put it up to barely 1/4 gain for max output with max preout voltage

better to do that, then have half a wimpy preout voltage and have to crank your gains for the amp to match and get it all hot and bothered

Hmm i might try this later today.

my amp doesnt get warm unless it sits in the car on a hot day =)

for tunning, i might take it down to 35.... i here 40 is good but i like dem lows on occasions

im working on 3 term papers due at the end of this week so im short on time but ima work up a design for a new box soon

a good 4.5 cubes tuned to around 35 hz

this time i doused the box with the remaining fiberglass i had to try to stiffen it up.

it ugly and my cuts were crooked but its quite louder then my last box.

bigger port area this time? that will make the biggest difference. i built a box for my ten and i about doubled the port area and it got crazy loud compared to before. i think i should have tuned a hair higher though, i'm at 33.xx hz, i might cut the port down a little bit.

yeah the port is almost 2x as big now.

i cant tell if it has the same amt of excursion or not since the sub is inverted but it doesn't seem to move as much... maybe its just me. i turned down the BB and adjusted the gain abit cuz im reading all this shit about clipping and wanna keep my sub safe. but i turned up the bass on the deck a bit for a stronger signal...

either way the shit still wangs hard.

screws started falling out of my car so shit rattles like crazy but i use as much silicone as i can to fix those rattles.
