i had a pair of morel hybrid ovation components installed in the front doors two days ago at a very, very reputable place. comps sound great, guys there are great, BUT after I left the shop, the driver's side window kept suddenly falling falling down (not sliding, but literally dropping and making a loud thud). Other times, I would come out of my apt and find the window had fallen anywhere between 3" and the entire way down.

this worried me and i made an emergency service appt with audi to have it fixed tomorrow.

BUT it rained last night, and at some pt in the night, the window fell down, and when I went to get in my car before work, the entire tweeter was soaked bad, as was the door. the tweeter is completely fried, and the woofer barely works.

the guys at the shop are going to swap the tweeter and woofer on the right side for free (obviously). they also offered to fix the door which I am not comfortable with. who knows what is wrong with it, and if this happens again, i will be really pissed.

when I get the bill from audi, and have to pay for it, I dont wanna ruin the very strong relationship I have with the shop by asking/arguing with them to pay for it. however, I think that whatever I end up paying for the window to be fixed as a result of what they did when installing the components should be taken my next purchase at the shop.

i know a lot of you guys probably work in the car audio field and I was wondering what you guys think about the situation, how I am handling it, as well as the general trends when it comes to sht like this (bc i am sure this isnt the first time somnething like this has happened).

applies will be enthusiastically appreciated. rock and roll.

make htem pay for it. Tell them that you had already made arangements made to have it fixed by an authorized technitian and that is who you feel more fomfertable fixing the problem. They broke it and you got it fixed, they owe you.

well if they were the ones that mest up your window somehow so it didnt work properly and something was damaged in your car because of of the window not working, i would fully expect them to pay for all the costs that you incur. they prolly wont like you very much for trying to make them pay. Whats more important to you, keeping a good relationship with the install place or having them pay for where they went wrong?

what year audi. VW/Audi was using bad clips in the jetta, golf, a4, tt and possible other models back in 99-01 and my windows in my jetta would just fall for no reason. It happened more on hot days than cold days, but they came out with new clips, they used metal instead of plastic, who would have though a metal clip would hold a car window better than plastic one? I wanted to shoot the guy that decided to use that clip. There should be a TSB if you car is affected and I know VW extended the waranty on that clip for 10 years unlimited mileage.

I go there frequently to have my system retuned by a guy who has been tuning subs since 1976 (i didnt know people having been putting systems in their cars that long!). I have 3 upgrades planned for this summer.

1. upgrade to 2 10W7's with a custom box and 2 500.1 JL amps

2. have custom kickpads with morel mid-bass speakers installed

3. have a custom center-channel speaker installed (not sure about brand yet)

if i tell them i dont want them to pay for it, but to just take that price off my next purchase (which will be in 2-3 paychecks), i think i can still have a good relationship with them

this is very important to me, because i lhave had terrible experiences with other private and supposedly "reputable" shops. these guys have gone out of their way for me on several occassions and are not only phenomenal at their jobs, I also trust them a sht load.

thats funny bc my 99 VW Passat (LOVE THAT CAR) did the exact same thing. its a 2003, soon to be replaced (next july) with a 2007 RS4 with the glow-in-the-dark blue (thats assuming I pass the bar exam and begin practicing law officially).

if it was somethinhg with the manufacturer then dont ask them to fix it, have the car company pay for the damages. Hell try and have the car company reimburse you for the speakers even though they where replaced under warranty.

Good luck with that.

If you're out of warranty, and it doesn't affect the safety of the car (sometimes, even if it does) you're out of luck.

so the window was probably out of its proper track after they put the door back together after installing your speakers. i think they can fix that.

You mention your relationship with this shop several times.

If you are a repeat and longtime customer, they should value your business. Its not easy for brick and mortar shops, with the lower prices on the internet.

Just talk to them, see what they offer- tell them you are not comfortable with them repairing the window (unless it is just off track, thats a simple fix), and ask what they would like to do.
