If replace your current speakers with either high quality co-axials or a good component set and use and external amplifier, they will get plenty loud.

Cheap speakers off of the stock deck will not, however.

you don't really need more than a properly setup/powered, good quality set of speakers to keep up with almost anything you throw at it.

Being a truck, with the subs in the cab and so close, he'll probably need to amp whatever speakers he gets to help them keep up. Not a difficult task, but it does throw a little more money into it. =\

And at the same time... if the speakers are on the dash it actually helps make them louder.

In the doors in a truk, on the other hand... your in for some trouble, especially after you bump that seat up to fit the box (if applicable).
