Could anyone that has ordered gear online through American websites help me out with how much extra I'll be paying for customs fees and the like?

I want to make sure that the smaller number on the website doesn't end up costing me more in the long run.

On a $250USD MSRP product, I payed $106CAD in brokerage/duty fee's. That didnt include shipping. Needless to say, that was through UPS.

Apparently you can go through USPS and only pay $5 + GST.

Hopefully Mark can fill in the details on that ^.

i shipped a small package up to canada once, i dont think that i payed ANYTHING extra at all...it was like a 12x12 package that was pretty light and it cost me 3 bucks or something......it was via USPS

Living in Canada is a real pain in the arse. Expect to pay double what the American price is, in Canadian dollars. eg, if something is 250USD, expect to dish out 500CAD, all things said and done. I don't deal through online stores anymore. If you have something shipped to you (eBay for example) request it be sent as a Gift, and ship via USPS. 5 dollar handling fee instead of a minimum 32 dollar brokerage fee via UPS. Try to buy in Canada when you can. It'll save you hassle, and moola.

its $10us a year and $1us for each package....and the people at the boarder won't bother to hassle with it since it is relativly small stuff..
