Shims for a recone?

wasnt sure where to put this but here it goes. I have reconed plenty of subs in the last couple years but i have always used shims. I have no idea where any of my shims went so im just going to use notecards. My question is, instead of putting the notecards around the pole and then dropping in the recone, can i drop the recone in and then drop in the notecards?

yeah just drop in the coil and put in ur note cards through the top until you've reached ur desired gap
