My "APSM clone" comment didn't neccessarily mean it's a copy of the APSM, per se... Just that it's the same thing. A friend and I installed an APSM1500 on a pair of Type Rs and fried the coil on one of the subs after a few weeks. We set the gains correctly by ear (turning up the volume until it doesn't get audibly louder any more, then backing off of the gain slightly) That's "750w" blowing the coil of a sub rated for 1000w.
This just goes to show how distorted/clipped the power that this amp puts out is... And for everyone in this thread that doesn't undertsand what I just said, I'll break it down:
1. Clipping/distortion causes much higher than normal heat - more clipping = more heat
2. Heat destroys coils of subs
3. Smoke
