shallow subs

My latest car is a Mrk1 MR2, so not much room to install a sub.

I think it would be possible to put a sub in the forward trunk and have it like a forth order bandpass box with it ported into the cabin, but I think that would get a bit crazy and probably would end up sounding less then perfect.

I think I'll just do one sub behind the passengers side (since they don't have peddles and stuff by their feet) or maybe one behind both seats.

My criteria, can't be too deep, perhaps a shallow sub would be best. My seats are out right now so I can't measure, but I think 5 inches would be the absolute max depth.

Sound quality is far more important then how loud it can go.

A 250 rms or more would be good depends on how efficient it is.

Not sure how high up the seat I can make the box so I'm thinking its going to have quite a small volume

Price...300 or less

Ummmm whats with this new forum, I can't really see what I'm typing, its black on grey....

Anyways back to the subject on hand. I put my seat in my car and it turns out I have more like four inches, and considering there is a inch or so of MDF on the back side that really doesn't leave me with much, 3 or maybe four inchs for the sub. Granted if I put a protective plastic covering over the sub that might give me one extra inch.

Any more suggestion?

Thanks

An 8" depth limitation leaves you pretty much open to any subwoofer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I didn't even know those cars had 8" of space anywhere in them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif (kidding) Although I think if you put a driver that deep behind the seat in an MR2 either you or your passenger will be kissing the dash.

I would throw in an 8 behind each seat as they dont require much ft3. Also, most will have a mounting of ~4" so that shouldnt be an issue. Also, for SQ without breaking the bank, look at ID8's, JL W3's. DD1508's get loud but aren't the best for SQ, though they can still sound very good.

He posted up earlier that he only has 4" total depth for the box, so his speaker choices are limited to shallow drivers.

Ya I could sacrifice leg room for myself or the passenger, but I'd rather not. I'm not going for SPL, so hopefully I can find a good sounding sub that will fit. I don't think I'll go with the JL, its pretty huge at 13.5", plus its a lot more money then the other ones.

Thanks for the feed back, keep it coming.

The Stereo Integrity subwoofers are known for their outstanding sound quality. Their last sub, the Mag v4 just simply disappeared into the music..it was almost TOO clean.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
