While you've asked a couple questions such as "So has anything changed since this thread was started a year ago? When will the Stereo Integrity BM kIII come out? Was there a previous version like a SI BM or SI BM kII that I missed? How do I get a pair of these", I didn't see you ask how much they were. If I missed it, I would like to see where you asked about the price. Can you show me where you asked about the price and not only about availability?
As to "deflecting" your question, your question about which would be better can only be answered by you because to use the target 0.5 ft^3 recommended volume or a larger 0.65 ft^3 hinges on the system goals, output desired, LFE desired, etc, of the user. When we state the following in our FAQ:

...it means that making the enclosure volume significantly smaller than recommended will cause a reduction in LFE. On the other side, making it larger will reduce the power handling of the driver. If you must send 450 to 500 watts RMS to the driver for extended periods of time because SPL is what you, or the customer, are after then we suggest looking for a different subwoofer. And if the price was out of the budget, questions about the subwoofer should have stopped right there because it is simply out of the budget. Or instead you can poke fun at the most linear (flattest BL, flattest Cms curve, flattest Le, etc) shallow mount subwoofer and sound quality in today's market and sound quality ("the oh so mighty XBL^2 motor and the sound quality").
I have asked elsewhere how much this woofer cost and why its not on the website, where I noted about some information being on the website was missing. I get it. I understand now, that there is only one guy sometimes two guys, building the woofer and the parts are hard to get. I guess this woofer isnt for me. Outside of my budget, now that I was finally able to find out. Sorry, but you shouldnt have to search for price of a subwoofer. I can find the prices of these woofers on their website or where they sell the woofer, or even ebay. Obviously, this is a scarce woofer and availability is extremely low. I need something that acts like a subwoofer, although I want some sound quality, I want some output also. Some SPL. So I guess I will move along to a different woofer and not bother with this one. People seem so defensive about it. I wont be able to ever get it anyway, so why worry about a woofer you cant get and focus on one that you can get.

So with that being said, anyone have any recommendations other than the SI BM MKIII's or MKIV's? Looking for some SPL in a box that has .7 cu ft of airspace per chamber. Yes, I understand that SPL and Shallow Mount doesnt go together, but Im just trying to help out my friend who has a regular cab truck get the most bang for his buck. He wants to be louder than all of his spoiled friends who have regular and crew cab trucks. Hard to achieve with a regular cab, but I have people on the message board, reviews, the internet, and me on his side rather than just a big wallet walking into a store and hearing, "JL Audio is the best eva! Buy this! It will shatter your windows!"

IIRC the Type-R shallows have a good deal of xmax, about the same as the BM. The BM will be cleaner though, and the R costs about the same or a hair more on ebay...
The Type R in a sealed box? Are the Type R Shallow's that much different than the normal Type R's? Reason why I ask is because I use to have the new Type R's and they performed much better ported than sealed. So much that I wouldnt even recommend putting one in a sealed box over other subs. Very interesting looks subs. Look way different than my Type R's except from the top view. The cone and ribbed surrounding looks similar, but whew, you were right, they are a bit pricier. I remember when my Type R 12's were fairly cheap. I guess it doesnt matter. I think I will have to find some subs that are $200 and under per subwoofer.

After searching on Woofersetc.com, there are plenty of shallow mount subs out there from Diamond Audio (more of a SQ oriented company. I had one of their 10" D6's. I actually liked them, but could totally see the need for a pair), JL Audio has their 12" and 13.5" versions, but at $400 a sub, definately out of the running, Kicker might be a good idea as they are more SPL oriented.... The MB Quart 304's keep drawing my attention, especially for under $100 per 12" sub. I guess there are plenty of options out there. Its just a matter of do I buy the box from Subthump.com or do I take a couple days off from work and build him a custom box and maybe go with some SA8's. I don't have the truck here, he lives back home, 300 miles away so Ill have to take time off from work, take my measurements, build him a box, while installing an amp kit, component speakers, two amplifiers, Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.1 digital sound processor, install the box and subs. Its hard for me to take off rom work since we are a new small start up sales office and I am the only boss.

Thanks for the reply.

Wow. Finally. Someone answered one of my questions. How much does this sub cost? $250? Wow. Definitely not budget friendly. $250 for both subs is something in my friends budget. I myself am not disputing the oh so mighty XBL^2 motor and the sound quality, but for $500 for two subs, is out of my friends price range and honestly, probably even out of MY price range, for a Shallow Mount sub. Looks like the MB Quart 304's it is, unless I can somehow find a set of used BM MKIII's, which doesnt sound possible. Since they seem to be a limited production subwoofer, therefor making them very sought after, someone would probably pay near MSRP for a used BM MKIII sub, so I dont see that happening. Hopefully the MB Quart 304's will have more output than the MKIII. Or I may just build a custom ported box for my friends regular cab truck and put in 2 SA8's.
see im not the only one that doesnt like the price. nothing against SI, because look they cant keep them in stock, they are flying out the door, thats great for SI!!!

wish i made more money, i would have 2-3 behind my back seat and it be stealth, sound GREAT, and get pretty loud...

rockford also has a shallow 10 and shallow 12.

i have p2 subs in the gf car, still pounding, and she loves them. i would personally go in this order for shallow subs.

SI BM

JL(if $ no object, and its SQ sub)

rockford

alpine

polk mm

memphis

RE

pioneer

but thats me not testing each, just from what little bit i know of them
