I've Got a JBL GTO14001 on 3 10w6's and I'm noticing some problems i'm not sure about.
First of all the amp have a section for a high pass filter next to a bass boost along with the normal low pass filter. The thing is, it doesn't sound like it's acting as a high pass. It acts like a center frequency for the boost. I say this because it doesn't seem to have much effect when the base is set to Zero.
The second issue is that certain upper bass frequencies seem to get really muddy sounding. A specific example is in the sound "Take care" Rhianna and Drake, during drake's verses there is a bass line that produces the muddy sound. I seem to get rid of it by dropping the low pass frequency but then some rock song's seem to lack the proper base kick. When I up the boost to 6 dbs and set the high pass up to like 60hz it seems to be a bit better, but then again that doesn't really make sense. And why should I NEED boost to make it sound better?
Do any of you have experience with this line of amps and what settings do you use?
Do you think it sounds like the box is too small? I built is just barely under specs but polyfilled the crap out of it.
The only other possible issue i can think of is that the box is effectively an L shape because of a brace that runs along the bottom of the trunk think that could cause some weird acoustic problems? Here's a diagram:
