Sending more than RMS to a speaker

Just because you have a "180watt" rms amplifier (180 x 2 rms or whatev) doesn't mean you're sending you speakers 180 watts. Use a DMM and a 0dB test tone and set those speakers to 180rms power using AC voltage...and I guarantee you they wouldn't last long //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Me, I like head room. You can get an amp that is rated at TWICE the rms power, but that doesn't mean you're sending the speaker that much power. It depends on input signal strength, gains, etc.

EXACTLY! ya read that chinny?

I am positive its not getting 180w,but I have 3 amps I tried for the same speakers

eD 9.4

Diamond D5600.2

and my cheapo PA OV820

the eD was too low in output for my taste prolly close to being accurate though for what he advertised,I just hated its SQ,way too flat and no punch

the DA was way too much power prolly close to 200W ,

the cheapo amp was perfect,I am thinking it does prolly 135-145w compared to its advertised 180w

Actually, the amp has been running flawlessly for a while now,for 100.00 it has been good to me

You obviously did not get what I was saying.

what trigger just said, I dunno what you are thinking though... to my knowledge there is no theory that states all speakers may be overpowered by 60W //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.
Well i really didnt mean i would feed them 60w more than RMS, just the amps RMS would be 60w more than the speakers RMS. And from what people are saying here, that should be just fine.

Basically, im aiming for an amp to do that, so i believe that i would have to "overpower" my first pair, to amp the pros nicely.
