After looking around on ebay for a new amp I came across this soundstream that was about to sell for a reasonable price so i picked it up. I got it for $80 and $20 shipping. The seller guaranteed that it would work after i specifically asked him. When i get it it powers on but there is no output. I tested my wiring with a friends amp and its working perfect. So, I e-mail the seller and he will either return the amp minus shipping both ways or give me a $30 refund. This amplifier would be perfect for my application so I would really like to keep it. Do you guys think i should return it and take a $40 hit or keep it for the refund and find someone to repair it? My budget WAS around $150 for an 800x1 amp at 1 ohm. If anyone has something around that rating for around 120 shipped let me know.

put up the ebay auction so we know what seller to stay away from.

So you spent $80 -$20shipping==he would only give back to you $60-$20your cost of shipping back to him==$40. So at this point there is no $$$ worth to send it back, cost to repair could be simple or very $$$. If its circuit board is bad, just out of luck, might get lucky and be a simple component repair. Take the $30 and hope repair cost is cheap,

But just recheck your wiring or take amp to your friends car to see if its works. And make sure all the setting on amp is correct, like a selector of button switch for crossover setting.

Technically the seller lied to you in the auction description or email so you shouldn't have to pay any shipping charges. I would fight it and get all your $$$ back. Tell him will leave negative feedback, he might give you all the money back, too small a $$$ to ruin your feedback record. If I was the seller and knew it worked and buyer still says no work, would require proof from auto installer that amp is bad and then refund. If buyer still says amp bad without installer proof. I would cut my lost and buyer as bad transaction, give all money back and leave nasty feedback.

I would get $100- $20 shipping, so $80- probably around $15 shipping so $65. I took the amp apart and nothing looks physically wrong. Hopefully its nothing major. KBaudio will do it for $100 so I might go that route. Here is the auction

should I take the $30 or go to paypal and try to get it all back?

you are screwed because in his ebay description, he saids its in good shape and tested, never mentions that its working. If you have email from him stating that states that its working then you have a case and can fight, complain to paypal and will get money back. Call credit card company and put ebay item in dispute, state item is misrepsented. Call paypal same thing, supposedly you have $1000 paypal buyer protection by paypal.

New one cost only $199+shipping, then you would spend $100 to repair-$30refund ==$70cost+$100orginal cost==$170. Doesn't make sense to repair old one, get the new one.

If I were you and have proof email stating working by seller then fight to get the whole $100 back since he misrepresented the auction therefore he is liable for shipping cost both ways. If you paypal by credit card, you have good chance.

Doesn't make sense to keep and repair when you can get new one for extra $30+$25shipping==$55 and brand new with warranty, its a no brainer.

doesn't look good for you if you don't have some written proof because his auction is very sneaky, makes it seem like its working conditions but leaves him an out clause
