So the gov should tax google more and get in their business to find alternative ways to make cheaper search engines and ad placement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
I mean, google's profit margins are larger than most if not all of the large oil companies....so they must be out of line too!
Google makes more money Huh, what do you do, just make this up?

DALLAS - Exxon Mobil Corp. posted record profits for any U.S. company on Monday — $10.71 billion for the fourth quarter and $36.13 billion for the year — as the world’s biggest publicly traded oil company benefited from high oil and natural-gas prices and solid demand for refined products.

oh yeah and.....

Exxon’s profit for the year was also the largest annual reported net income in U.S. history, according to Howard Silverblatt, a senior index analyst for Standard & Poor’s.

ConocoPhillips said last Wednesday that its fourth-quarter earnings rose 51 percent to $3.68 billion, while annual income climbed 66 percent to $13.53 billion. Two days later, Chevron Corp. said its fourth-quarter earnings rose 20 percent to $4.14 billion, while annual income jumped 6 percent to $14.1 billion.

show me a mom and pop store who make 51 percent more than the last qaurter they were open, were are talking about so much ****ing money, tax them 25% for renewable energy.

I ride a vino to work anyways, remember 1998? mild and gas we 99c a gallon, WTF happened, oh yeah Bush happened.

Just wait till we get attacked during the next election, bush will declare marshall law and has aready gotten authorization from congress to use Military and national guard against the US population, to contain us and "restore Order"

Profit margins, not profit...look it up. Why can't people understand that concept //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Hey Richie...you need to practice a little moderation.

First of all, the oil companies are already investing a lot of money in alternative fuels. And if they don't want to, they don't have to. They are a business. They are free to make as much money as they want....it is the constitutional freedom they are given as residents of the United States of America.

Ethanol is not viable because it must be planted and grown.

The price of gas has skyrocketed everywhere. Up here, we pay $5/gallon. But I suppose this is solely the fault of the US government, too?

Do you deny that the US market and economy do not directly affect global markets?

But oil is viable cause it magically appears, it too has to be drilled and processed.....same principal.

I have no doubt that they are investing a lot of $$ in to alternative fuels - which as of now is a big part of their expenses, which at the end of the day reduces their tax liability - anyone with any kind of acctg/fin background understands this. But they (oil companies) are the ones making billions of dollars a year selling a product that they all ready produce and have the market on lock; where is their incentive to introduce an alternative fuel source that is less expensive to produce and cheaper on the consumer? There is none, they would lose billions of dollars selling what they all ready produce.

Ethanol made from switchgrass works pretty well....but still drives up the cost of produce due to opportunity costs.

you like most on here have to revert to smart a$$ comments or smiley faces, next you will revert to name calling - wait you all ready do that - i know it's not growing wild - but you act like this can't be done - are there not hundreds of thousands of acres in the US that can plant and grow this - do you not think US farmers would not be willing to do so?

Is Hawaii not a place where this is all ready grown? But go ahead and post your 12 year old smart a$$ comments and smiley faces

Oil company profit margin % is not very high... under 9 percent.

If you sell a product at $1 with 9% profit you make 9 cents.

If you sell a product at $2 with 9% profit you make 18 cents.

Sell the same amount you make twice as much profit but the same margin percentage.

Should your tax rate go up because prices did? No, thats stupid.

What about milk companies? Milk is expensive... windfall tax! Right.

Right...the key word there is rate.

The amount of taxes paid does increase...

Too many people simply lack the ability to think outside of the box.

The simple truth is that politics is a complex machine. The only way to attempt to understand politics is to realize that due to its complexity, it is nearly impossible to understand. As such, you should accept it's complex nature and leave it there.
