Senate Republicans block windfall taxes on Big Oil

Does anybody really believe that if that tax was passed, the price of gas would go down? Those taxes would just be passed on to us the the price of gas would have jumped up even more.

Actually not really sure what NPR (my guess would be a republican radio broadcast or something, I'm not going to bother looking it up) but it just seems like common logic to me. It works that way with everything else.

I don't believe the government ought to create windfall profit taxes, it's anti-captialistic. What they should do is be alot more engaged in the oil company's alternative fuel investments. They should proactively promote more investments and cooperate to make sure the investment is being made wisely.
Pretty much said exactly what I believe. Excellent and succinct post.

Isnt that the opposite of stereotype fighter?
Kinda like being black and democrat?

y, yes it is pt. 2!!

the stereotype fighter, refers to a person who goes against socio-cultural preconceived notions, not political.

so you both believe they shouldn't tax big business, which is the way gov't receives their income, but yet you believe they should tell them how to invest all of their earnings....more wisely that is cause the government has proven over the past 8 years that it is fiscally responsible and capable of handling other people's money - FVCKIN BRILLIANT!!!!

don't you get it, the oil companies will not be the ones who find alternative fuel's - there is too much money at stake for them in the oil industry to give the public another alternative fuel source

Necessity isn't the mother of all invention, revenue is. I don't think the gov should tax oil companies just because they sell alot of product, thats just a sneaky way to grow government even further at the expense of private sector businesses and in turn, the citizens of this country.

Once somebody comes up with an equitable alternative fuel source, people will invest, and things will get moving. Until then providers will continue to provide what makes the money...oil/gas

Dude nobody is saying dont tax big business. And saying oil companies have no interest in finding alternative fuels is highly ignorant. Who do you think has to the most to lose when (not if) alternative fuels are found? Are you saying they arent aware that oil will someday run out?

Take a few steps back, take off the foil hat and maybe you will get some perspective. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

to not is just a sneaky way to grow government even further at the benefit of private oil industry and in turn, at the expense of the citizens of this country....fixed it for how it currently is

Yes thats exactly it. Oil is only going up in the United States. It is **** near free everywhere else. Thus making George Bush the richest man in the earth when he retires from president. I can see it now....

So the gov should tax google more and get in their business to find alternative ways to make cheaper search engines and ad placement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I mean, google's profit margins are larger than most if not all of the large oil companies....so they must be out of line too!

what incentive do they have now to introduce alternative fuel's???? they would obviously lose billions of billions of dollars, which they are making now, if they were to "discover" an alternative fuel source....FYI ETHONAL was discovered in the 70's, when did it get introduced in to the market....I'm sorry, but you are truly the ignorant one.
