Semi-cheap setup to replace L7.

I'm driving myself crazy trying to decide on a new setup to replace a 12" L7. 3 AA Assassin 8's has crossed my mind. I have a box that is 2.3 @ 32hz that I think should work well for 3 of them. Also my zx750.1 would give them around 300+ watts @ 1.34 or whatever it is. The L7 is loud, I just dont like the sound quality. I hear the Assassins are nice for SQ, but will 3 get as loud as my L7 which was in the enclosure I mentioned?

Any other suggestions that will fit my enclosure, amp and price range of less than $200 are welcome.
