What is a better electrical upgrade?
my current one is 130.... I am putting in a 200 amp alt in a few days....how big is your current alternator?
can you mix and match alts? like 200 amp one and a 130 amp one? not a good idea?I don't think a batt is more practical. It doesn't produce power and can't keep the voltage up at 14v like an alternator can.
alts > battsyou can have different amp alts. multiple batteries is more common because ppl seem to feel it's a cheaper route but the 2 alts is the ultimate upgrade and then have a good battery in the rear as well!! that will be ideal!! IMO!
Look how much more power amps put out at 14v than they do at 12v. A battery, a second or two after starting to discharge is in the 12v range. They don't stay up around 13v very long at all. Not only will an alt keep the voltage up around 14v, but it doesn't weight as much, and doesn't take up cargo area. A good batt usually costs 150-200 dollars. x3 or 4 and you've got an alt that would have prevented the need for all of those batts. It won't kill your gas mileage and it won't take up cargo space. People who recommend batts vs caps a) don't know what they are talking about. b) are lazy. c) are afraid to change their alt. (it's really easy unless you drive a compact car)alts > batts
