Sealed box size for a type-r 12"?

I saw on the alpine site they recomend a .85cf box for the R. I don't have the ability right now to make my own box so I went looking around. For a box that a R will fit in a found a 1.0cf and a 1.25cf box.

Now I was at a local stereo shop and the guy there said that even a 1.0cf box would be too small and thay either the sub would break or the box. He was saying the sub needed a much bigger box then what alpine recomended.

So my main question with one 12" what should my target box size be?

each sub. 1.4 - 1.6 or so works ok sealed for type r's. the small box size they recommend saves them on their warranty.

I found a brand new q-logic box on craigslist for $45 it's the 1.75cf.

in seald box u have more sq and less spl and in vented box u have more spl and less sq

after sub displacement you wont be far from 1.6

i ran R's both in Ported and sealed boxs...Ported>Sealed.
