hey guys,

I seem to be in a bind here.

just got done all the math on my new box build,

and it seems like im pretty f'ed.

specs for my sub - tell me it wants 5.5 to 8 cubes ported ( not including port disp.)

and what I can fit in my car is only - 6.64 cubes

after taking away space for the sub and port

it leaves me with 5.59 cubes.

still with in the specs of re - but just by a hair. (re sx 18)

so - I was thinking maby just running it in a sealed box

wich would leave me 6.42 cubes to run sealed.

im thinking it should still sound good - but im a little worried about

heat build up inside the box ? - since its going to be sealed.

im all over the place with this - wich is made worse by its raining outside

right now and I cant start building - so time is making me second guess

my build plan for the box...... grrrr

if it was your rig - would you do sealed at 6.42

or would you do ported at 5.59

power is coming from bxi1206d - so it can see 1k watts realisticly.

wich is rms of the sub. - also the car is tiny inside ( my vette )

if that makes a diffrence at all.

spl blazer says it should be ok if its in the manufactures specs,

but smaller boxes can handle more power - mine is just rms power

probly nothing more - even tho amp says 1200w - hifonics is just good like that

I guess...... ?

lmk what you guys think.

thanks again

an 18 ported in 5 cubes is small, but its not ridiculously small...I'd go for it, worth a try, if it sucks, seal up the port opening and you've got a big sealed box

hell I've got two MJ's in like 4 cubes a piece (granted they aren't as heavy-duty as higher end 18's and don't need as big a box, but still...)

I had 4-15" RE SX subs and they had around 3 cubes each and that was a bit small. I did a 152.9 on the term Lab meter with that box. I also ran one of the SX 15's in a 2.5 cube box and it worked ok. I say go for the ported box.

edit, also that SX sub does not work well at all in a sealed box,

I say go ported, you can also try using Aero's instead of a traditional slot port as they do displace quite a bit less air, you may be able to get a bit more space. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

I'm pretty sure RE doesn't recommend sealed for the SX's. There is usually a reason for that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

I was thinking of aero's too.

usualy im a slot port kinda guy -

but in this case where space is such an issue - I had been thinking of them as an option.

any ideas where to get a pair of them ? maby a pair of 4" size aeros at 30 hz might be good ?

I'd go for 2 6" aeros if you can fit them.
