Sealed and LOUD? Suggestions???

Got about ~1kw to play with and want to try something that gets halfway loud.

Anybody out here have any thoughts on loud sealed subs?

looking to shed weight but maintain abuse. I cant run ported anymore, heavy boxes killing me, since car has gone more into horsepower performance.

Cone area and linear cone throw are your best friends for loud sealed setups. Unlike some of the tricks you can use ported, there truly in no replacement for displacement when it comes to sealed. Something that you might look into is a passive radiator setup. That can give you most of the output of a ported system down low but without having to account for the displacement of a huge port.

i had a 15" tc3000 in 1.5 sealed and it was able to get surprisingly loud off enough power. 1000 wouldnt really be adequate though

This was what I was getting at by asking for size and space limitations.

It can weigh nearly twice as much. Consider a .75ft^3 box for a sealed 10" sub, and that a 1.25ft^3 ported box will need to be about 2ft^3 total.

Also a good point. Passive radiator setup would be interested.

Personally I would do like a single 10 or dual 8 ported with a areo port. Use 1/2" wood and 500-1000rms depending on the sub. That box should be more then small enough and have great output.

.75ft^3 is good for a single 8 but definitely not a pair. And even if you did run a pair in a .75ft^3 box, since you have to keep port area high enough to ensure no noise with a pair of 8" subs, the port would need to be quite long, eating up extra box volume.

Smaller box for sealed to begin with. No port either which depending on port area and tuning can more than double the size of the box and triple the amount of material in it.

subs capable of handling 1k are heavy themselves... you want lighter and louder do a lower powered ported setup with light subs. plenty of options around to make boxes lighter.
