SD8000 first impressions

looks to be a promising amp, but from the looks of how its built and the test results, this thing is going to melt if it is ran at anything less than 14 volts for an extended period of time.

Aside from that, i have a feeling this thing is going to take over the burp box scene.

If it was going to melt, it would melt at higher voltage. The more voltage you feed an amp, the hotter it gets (for extended time periods). I don't disagree with the ratings but I'd love to see a video done to prove these claims.

my question is why dosen't the amp companies start putting multiplie inputs and grounds on amps to deal with the high current over these small wires. i know some comanies are putting a pair of 1/0 powers and grounds on amps but i dont see it on the sd8000. it's kind of rediculous. i would be putting 3 sets on an amp that big, or just making bolt down style busbars on the amp. i mean come on do you think some kid just street bumping is going to have one of these amps so you have to make it retard proof. throw factory bus bars on them.

Any buddy have a SD5000 i would like to maybe try to get a hold of one. Do some of my own testing if im impressed ill keep it if not then well hell. Guess i won't be super surprised.

Someone just send me a SD5000! Ill do a direct swap out with my RD D9 (5k@1ohm) and get them both metered!
Im not being a dick but im just curious how the hell can you own a d9 and have a stock battery under the hood and stock speakers front and back.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Hello everybody

The amps are tested over the years, they were designed for daily use, and any GOOD amp will perform well in competitions.

The amps are extremely loud on daily because they have a 20% power drop to the double impedance, and when you heat up your coils the resistance rises and the power goes down, but with a SD amp you will send more power than other amps on daily system.

Try it yoursef.

That only works if you have the input power though.. Those amps dont just make power out of thin air. So in a daily seetup surging i'll just figure 600amps, through that one piece of 1/0 input. I would definately see many problems.

Say I was to use an SD8000 and mount it where I would mount my other amp which require about 2.5ft of 1/0 from the battery bank, the SD800 would pull at times 500amps to just make roughly 6kwatts.

You can't tell me they will work well in a "daily" app if you end up melting the wire powering the amp due to surging of current.

so run more wire....

Are you fucking dense?

You do realize that music is dynamic? It is not a constant sine wave, by no means. Hook up a high sampling clamp meter to the input of ANY amplifier and look at how often the amperage changes, the peak amperage is by no means the actual amperage over the duration of the amplifier operating.

The peak amperage will be for fractions of a second to a few seconds at a time if that... and change dynamically as the music changes.
