^^^Yep, but you need to find them with the unthreaded section as long as your wood is thick or countersink them to the point that the unthreaded part goes all the way through the first piece for it to do any good.

Yeah, that would be nice, but it might be hard to find a screw that is of suitable length and has enough unthreaded part. The screws will still perform well even if the unthreaded part is not 3/4" long.

Countersinking is also a good idea.

I use 1 1/2" brad nails. It alot faster and it hold the wood together while the glue dries.
