Screwed up my box...

Okay, I was trying to build a box that was 3 cu.ft. tuned to 35 hz. for my 12" L7. Long stroy short it turned out wrong. The port opening was only supposed to be 3" but mine is 3.75". After entering all the specs into the RE box calculator The tuning came out to almost 37 hz. After playing with it some I figured out I could get it down to right at 30 hz. if the port opening was only 3" and I added 7" to port piece # 2. NOW... Could I just glue a piece of .75" MDF to port piece # 1 to make the opening .75" smaller? And add that extra length to piece # 2? Or would this totally throw everything off? I know this is ghetto as all hell but honestly I couldn't do it right the next time around and can't really afford to keep messing up and definately can't afford to have one built. Looks do not matter, as long as it sounds decent.

Box specs are;

L- 37"

W- 14.5"

D- 17"

PP1- 10.25"

PP2- 14"

Port- 3.75" wide

This box just sound like crap as it is, I really want to get much lower...

so with the added length and a 3" port you would get the desired tuning? If so, go for it. Worse part would be you building a new box. Looks like you would have to do that anyway if you don't try adding wood on

Why you want it so low?? I'd try it at 37hz before tweekin on it...

not a problem to add a piece to make the port narrower, just did that to mine...

Making it longer can be done also, just a little harder to do sometimes. When you add the 7" piece, I'd use a piece on the back side to connect it to the original port if that makes sense.

I did not like how the box sounded as it was, I want to get it tuned pretty low if for no other reason than to just see for my self the difference... I don't really understand tuning at all so I figure give it a shot since I'm not going to use it as it is anyways... Thanks for the input guys.

I could make you a design for like $10. Id include Step by step pictures in sketchup with construction notes so it would be impossible to mess up the build.
