Screeching coming from my Alternator

sometimes screeching is caused by a loose belt, I know a while ago when i burped the car it would screech, talked to dom iraggi about it and he said the belt was slipping, so i purchased the same belt size but with so called teeth to grab the pulley better for the current demand I needed. that wont do it if its screechy, before i got the new belt i tried the non slip crap you can buy for belts and it worked for about 2 days, get a new belt with teeth on it im pretty sure your demanding alot of current from the alt and the belt is slipping, new belt with teeth or lots of cross grooves will take care of the problem.

Can you buy it at a local autozone or something or does it have to be special ordered?

and how hard is it to install? is it just removing a bolt and putting it in or is it a pretty hard process.

if the belt slips it scretches like crazy and semi works alt isnt spining fast enough. get belt dressing and tighten the belt a tad or replace it if its old

how hard is it to replace a belt yourself? Should I have a shop do it for me since I have never worked with this kind of stuff before.

its simple depending on the car.wouldnt or shouldnt cost more than 20-30 to have done .. you can do it yourself too but pay attention to how tight it is suppost to be. some cars it takes 5 min others 30 min ...

Just got bakc from kragen. Tried the belt dressing and it didnt work. Pretty sure my alts dead.

This morning I started my car and it made the noise but my batts charged at 14.3 and today after class i turned it on and my batts charged at 12.8 so im pretty sure it died today.

and WOW on prices from iraggi.

did you tighten the belt? the dressing makes the belt last longer not more sticky

Well, shouldn't my battery read more then 12.8 anyways if the belt was loose at least? everything still moves. The it only makes the noise at RPM's less then 1k but even when i rev to 2k my voltage doesnt move.

I think i burnt it up by upgrading the alt to battery but not upgrading the engine block to ground yet.

the more the alt belt slips the slower the alt goes=less power if a bearing was shot it would do it all the time

So i let my car sit for an hour while i went bowling came out started it and my batts were at 13.6. =/ i undid the big3. I think too much current flowing to my alt and my engine block not being grounded could be a problem.
