Scion xB factory installed SiriusXm compatibility issue

I have Toyota part no. PT546-52080 SiriusXM Fit Kit installed in my 2012 Scion xB. I want to install an aftermarket head unit. My installer is concerned about compatibility issues and is not sure if the Sirius kit will work without some sort of adapter. I spoke to Sirius...I spoke to Toyota....dead ends. My Scion dealer is useless, doesn't return calls. Is my installer trying to sell me an additional part I don't need. I just need some solid advice. Any will be greatly appreciated.

My Sirius is working just fine with the stock head unit but I want to upgrade it. Thanks!

no. each Sirius/XM module is unique to the mfr/head unit.

there may be some sharing between brands, but the are badged separately with unique connectors.

i don't even think an adapter between stock and aftermarket is an option. i think you need an entire package (antenna/receiver) made for the head unit you buy. it may be possible to reuse the antenna, but you can't cut/splice those cables. if the ends aren't identical, you have to swap out the entire antenna.

even if there was such an adapter, it would be over $100, so you might as well just get the kit that matches the HU.

Scion's head units and SiriusXM tuners are built by Pioneer. There are two ways it could work, if the Scion tuner uses Pioneer's standard iBus to connect with the head unit it's possible it will work with an aftermarket Pioneer head unit, or if the tuner uses SiriusConnect, there is an iBus to Sirius interface (CD-SB10 - $70) available from Pioneer. Those are the only ways it would even be remotely possible. Thus why I asked what head unit they were trying to install.

excellent point. most OEM products are made by companies that also do aftermarket (Pioneer, Alpine, Panasonic, Kenwood, Infinity, JBL, etc.). I suspect for most, OEM is what allows them to afford developing aftermarket.

Vaiboy: that's exactly what I suspect. I was looking to install Pioneer avh p4400bh unit...if the OEM Sirius does not work with it or the iBus to Sirius interface...my only option is to swap out the OEM and get a new Sirius tuner that will work w/ the new head unit. So the factory installed Sirius will be nothing more than $449 loss. Geez, we learn the hard way.

If it doesn't work you could always sell the factory head unit and tuner, a lot of guys with Toyota trucks like those scion head units and extras.

You will need an aftermarket Sirius interface. The factory radio does not use pioneers standard ip-bus connector and the internal data bus in that radio is modified to work with Toyota factory equipment only.
