i need help on a short essay i have to write. i need to write it on a subject/thing/place whatever, but it has to compare and contrast the two topics. i figured i could compare and contrast SPL and SQ. what im thinking is WHAT they are, HOW they are measured, and WHAT makes them good/bad. so maybe what subs make good sound quality subs, while others make good SPL subs. why a 3 way setup helps SQ but does nothing for SPL. SPL comps are judged with a sensor that measures sound pressure, but what exactly do the SQ lanes get judged by?

You're suppose to "search" and find that out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

SQ is judged by a guy placing a test disk (will vary depending on sanctioning body) into your head unit, and running a series of tests with the engine off from the driver's seat. He'll then start the engine and possibly rev it a little to test suseptibility (sp) to engine/alternator noise in the system.

You get judged on various criteria, such as subbass response, midrange clarity, stage width/height/depth, location of center image, and overall ambience, to name a few.

RTA measurement is done by placing a mic on a stand on the driver's side, and running pink noise (basically the entire audible spectrum of sound) through your system. The whole point is to try to come as close to a flat response as possible for the RTA score.

and that my friends......is a **** goo answer. thanks man, thats pretty much all i needed to write this paper fully.
That'll be $5 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'll get my SQ sheet from state finals...should give you a better answer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

edit - which I've seemed to have lost around here. Oh well.

What I've described is pretty much how it goes...for the specifics (like how many points you can get, blah, blah) that depends on what organization you compete in.

u might check the diff organizations and view the score sheets to determine what you are scored on for sq......cant remember the website of them....been a while since i've done any of that
