Say goodbye to your HD-DVD players, Blu Ray is here to stay...

You do realize that the government is giving $50 checks to people to buy the $50 ATSC - analog converter box for their existing tvs?
It's hard to realize.... but a HUGE portion of our population could give a rat's *** for quality. Dvd did so well because they are smaller, and you don't have to rewind them...they're easy to use. That's why cd killed cassette. That's why MP3 have done so well with the younger generation.... they're easy.

We're Americans..... we'll go back to black and white tv if it means we can be 5x more lazy.
meh, i still see it as more and more ppl are moving toward higher quality. Look at walmart day after thanksgiving, I know here upconvert dvd players sold out within minutes of opening

That's funny, I've been reading articles that say there is no way HD-DVD will pick up WB.

And if they do they are going to lose money offering the WB their deal. (Sort of like the 150 million the lost to romancing another studio which has been having talks with BR)

I don't pretend to know a lot of about the HD-DVD vs Blu-ray battle, but that's what I was told and it is a pretty reliable source.

Another interesting note is that Blu-ray is sponsoring the hell out of everything they can at CES, while I haven't seen much mention of HD-DVD in the brochures.

I could care less either way, I just wish one would go away.

If they were moving towards higher quality, why were they shopping at Wal-Mart?

amen

That's what I'm thinking. What I've seen from here is typical of the demographic...20 or 30-somethings that go with the tide of whatever's new...there's a sizable chunk of the market that doesn't play video games, doesn't care about game platforms and doesn't have an HDTV yet. So this format war is still largely irrelevant to them.

Analog VHF/UHF transmission is being phased out...
And it is about time...

I don't know if you do anything in the RF world, but TV/Radio Stations do the most hard to the communications spectrum out of anyone. A lot of them have such dilapidated equipment you can catch their harmonics clearly above the cellular band. We had a local TV station where I used to live which had a harmonic (from overdriving the front end of their amplifier or having a serious choke problem) that was dead on the input of our UHF LTR Trunking system.

Talk about not being able to just tune a notch filter on it...

One needs to go alway...

If the format wants to live as a whole, one needs to go away...

You're from one of those too?

Thank god for moving to Cincinnati...

HD dvd will lose...thats what I tell people when I sell them dvd players and they always believe me. Aside from jews, indians and asians.
You have to watch out for those Jews, Indians, and Asians...

I'm surprised my computer lets me post that I like BR...

Shhh, it's a Toshiba, but don't tell it that...

That's what you get when they're running a shit-ton of power, lots of HAAT and a dummy at the controls...or worse, running it by satellite/remote control so you don't even have an engineer around to blame. I always thought it was laughable that 100kW TV stations with MHz's worth of bandwidth would get away with that and the FCC would only care about the 10-watt unlicensed station that decided to take up a measly 200KHz in the college band somewhere...

We've got a big UHF machine up at the 1000' level of a tower here, even with tones on the input we get hellacious interference from the NASA facility at Wallops Island, a good couple hundred miles from here...wish we could tell them to turn it off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Lol at this thread turning into an xbox/ps3 throwdown.

I have to decide when enough is good enough for me, the minute I upgrade something new and "better" will come out.

As of right now I can sit down pop a beer and watch a regular DVD on my regular TV and still enjoy the experience so untill I no longer enjoy it I guess Ill just stick with what I have.

Are you running it Duplex or do you have two runs of Coax and two antennas?

Which UHF band is it in? 440?

Duplex, think the RF deck is a Motorola now...could be something else though.

Yeah, 440...amateur FM repeaters are from 440-448 with a 5MHz positive offset.

I got my start in electronics in radio, I was more comfortable with 50 ohm impedances before I ever got into ones 8 and lower //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Just don't ask me to read a Smith Chart...please...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
