Safe to cross ignition wire and battery wire?

WELL I had the player hooked up but the ignition wire wouldnt turn the HU on. So a neighbor had the idea of crossing it with the battery wire. AND it works. It doesnt turn on unless the key is turned like it should be. The car I had it in before...didnt work like that. Matched the wires and everything worked...BUT it also had a different wiring harness...since the car I got now is kinda 12 years older than the last car it was in.

So yea...safe to keep it as is or not?

maybe you just blew the radio fuse? check your cars diagram and find out what one replace it and then it should turn on normally without crossing the wires

Ignition wire should only be live when the key is in, so if I understand you correctly, you hard-wired the ignition wire to the +12v wire? That could drain your battery and/or be harmful for the vehicle. I believe the ignition wire powers things like the fuel pump, and those are supposed to turn off when the you take the key out...

Ya and apparently its not draining the battery. It sat since about 5pm last night to now and its currently 1:33pm and it still starts fine.

How could it be harmful?

Well I'm not really sure if I'm understanding you correctly...you directly wired the car's ignition wire, to the 12v battery wire? I don't know enough to say absolutely it would damage something, but if the ignition wire was meant to be live all the time, don't you think it would have been designed that way?

Their is a ignition wire/ACC that turns on the player and the wire that supplies the power to the HU correct? The ACC wire is hooked up how it should be...BUT no matter what I did I couldnt get it to turn on. I told a neighbor to get him to check it...since he knows more about car audio than me...WELL in some ways. But yea he got the idea to put the 2 wires together where the HUs wiring harness and the cars wires meet. It now turns on when the key is turned like it should be. In my old car the factory player had a plug...I had to buy a after market wiring harness that turns that plug into the wires needed for a after market cd player...with the harness+the players wires that come with it connected...it worked fine.

That is the best as I can explain it...

i dont understand this guy. the only wires you should be sending power to is the RADIO HARNESS. you shouldnt be feeding voltage back out to any other wires going to anything else...unless its a power antenna which i doubt you have.
