SA12 and...

I'm basically wondering what to get and I don't know much about car audio. I Haven't ordered anything yet but I'd like to get a SA12 and not sure on the amp to power it. I've been looking at the Massive Audio N3. My question is what would you guys recommend? I'm going to have to install it by tapping into my speakers with an inline high output converter and my 14' Dodge Dart has Automatic Gain Control which limits certain frequencies. This is the installation method I'll be using. Basically I'm wondering if I should get a high end sub and amp or do something like a type R if my car is going to limit it with what I've mentioned above and the install method.

What do you mean by limits certain frequencies? I hopw your using a quality line out converter such as lc2i. Id get a 1000-1200w amp to power it and just have your gain turned down.

The person who posted the thread on the dart forums that I linked to in my original post said that. I haven't ordered anything yet but I will be sure to get a quality one when I do. What sub and amp would you recommend for like a 400-500 budget for both?

The SA-12 is a great sub for that power range but it needs to be ported in a properly built box.

If you want true RMS with overhead go with an alpine amp, but be prepared for them to be marked up a bit. Sundown, SKAR, crescendo, and others all make pretty good mono blocks IMO

An alpine to piwer that sa 12 will be expensive so dont listen to that guy^^^

A soundqubed 1200 would be spmething id get. Or something used from the classified stuff always pops up. But make sure you get a d2 sub so you can wire to 1ohm. But yes a sa 12 belongs in a custom ported box not just any pre fab, any sub in reality belongs in a custom box. Which will run you around $200 iif shipped to you

I told him it was an expensive route, then offered him other options for cheaper amps lol that doesn't mean he shouldn't listen to me.

I'd never buy an alpine mono block amp, because I can't afford it. I know if i had the money to buy one though, i would.

I can hook you up with a custom ported. Pm me.

That was the other amp that's I've been reading about and hearing great reviews about as well actually. Is there a huge disadvantage with buying a used one? Was thinking about going to CACO to purchase but not really wanting to pay to view classifieds. Also would you recommend Hifonics amp or will I notice a huge difference? I just want something that's going to last me a long time.

I buy used all the time just make sure its good and test it as soon as you get it. I sold a sq1200 last week to a new member on here. I have both the sq1200 and a hifonics brz1200 and the sq is louder and cleaner but its also $120 more expensive. The hifonics will last you a while if you take care of it just like any other amp. So its your choice but ONLY get a brz, brx, or BE editions. Avoid all other hifonics models. Get a D2 sub and as i said run it at 1 ohm on like 800w and you should be plenty happy amd so will your amplifier because you have it turned down and giving out a clean signal without stressing the amp

There seems to be a lot of hate towards Hifonics but I'm also on a budget. I'll probably just go with the soundqubed considering it's recommended a lot more and is obviously higher quality. Thanks a lot man I appreciate all of your help..

Yea theres hate because its chinese and low quality but its honestly i think the best budget friendly brand. Sure id save up more and get the sq or get one used but its all your choice. Like i said set your gains right with a dmm and youll be good. Also pm CSCstang for a box because youll NEED a custom ported for that sub unless your planning on building yourself. But i cannot stress enough the importance of a well made ported enclosure.

I'm running an SA12 D2 with a Soundstream Rubicon rub1.1000D amp running @ 1000w x 1 @ 1 ohm. Its more than enough bass and the amp hardly gets warm after my hour commute to work. Very nice amp for $150 or whatever I paid for it, I've had no issues at all and very happy with the purchase after a year of use.

I'm running the sub in a 1 cube prefab sealed for space reasons, I really want to hear it in a proper sized ported.

@CSCStang, what do you charge for custom boxes?

You'll hear a huge difference going in a proper ported box.. You won't regret it.. CSCStang has very reasonable prices and does great work.. I can't recommend him enough. PM him for a quote since you live far
