s10 console

wow dude. looks badass. im going to make a console for my dads 2005 impala.

so much wasted space on the ****** lump in the middle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

any progress pics of making the frame of that thing? i have a genral idea of how im gonna do it. but id like to see how you laid it out.

That is bad A$$!!!
I wish I could play with the switches to test out and see how Easy or Awkward it is to use them...

Do you draw or Sketch these before you do them?

If so, can you sketch one for me with the stuff like I had mentioned before?

Also, this is the monitor, I'm looking at getting a few of... I want one in the console...

Nice monitor at an even nicer price. Would look good.

I'll draw something up for ya.

And with his arm or hand resting on or near the console, his fingertips are right at the switches. It pulls out so it can sit in his lap or for use outside the truck. When he makes it over, I'll get pics of all options. Not as difficult to use as it would seem.

Sweet... You Da man... edit* the only thing I can see that I'm not big on is, it lookslike you lose all the storage thats under the arm rest... Not a big deal though and I'd loose it to have a pimp console like that anyway....*

I am seriously wanting to get a new console in the next 2-3 months... I'd like it sooner, but I don't have the cash right this second..

As, I'm trying to buy some new interior pannels right now.. I'm planning on ditching all my tweeded pannels and painting the new ones to match the truck. If I do that, it'll be a good time for a custom fiberglassed console to go in.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It started off as a stock console. I didn't take early pics of it. But I'll explain as best I can.

I unbolted the storage lid. Then we drew some lines on the side of what I thought would make a nice design.

Took an air body saw and cut the cup holder out and cut along the line of the design making the wave.

I cut a peice of 3/4" MDF for the base of the switchbox and wedged it in and secured it with a couple screws. Then at the top of the wave and in the center of the arc, I used 1/2" MDF in 1" strips to form the arc and make it sturdy.

Also built the ledge in front of the switchbox out of 1/4" hardboard.

I also drilled holes along the bottom for the resin to penetrate and make an anchor.

Covered the whole thing in fleece. Stapled it along the bottom, and in the switchbox cubby to form it.

Also stapled it along the body line that runs at the back. Didn't want to lose any character and just be flat.

Resined it up real good. Then made a mount for the gauge, attached it and thats where the first pic starts at.

Did any of that make sense? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Here is a pic of a stock console from an s10/Blazer.

Yeah he didn't care if he lost that space. I can see about keeping it with a different design that will incorporate it.

And let me know about those tweeded panels. If they are still in good condition, I might be interested in them if your selling them. Might be able to work something out.

so you actually used the stock console to make the new one then?

i was thinking of starting from scratch... id make a top piece with some 1\2mdf, and cut a hole, and buy an aftermarket dropiin (between seats kinda deal) cup holder\change holder\storage thing - and cut it up as nessicary. then id glass the floor with a few layers, and mount the 1\2mdf with the cup holder thing in it with some dowels, and fleece it to the bottom mould.

maybe some side pieces to give it character, but my dad wants some cup holders, a 'opening storage compartment' and a 'dish area' to put his glasses and stuff.

what do you think? painting it matte texture grey.

Well thats the cool thing about this being custom...

There really are no rules as long as you like the outcome...

I say sketch it out... Maybe Mock it up on cardboard and cut it out to test fit, then get to glassin...

Sounds easy don't it....

Wait till you start sanding....

Sanding owns me.... I have yet to finish a fiberglass project... I have started a few (lame ones), but lost interest, then I see one of his posts and get all inspred again..... Then I start something else...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Thats why I want to get DB to work his magic for me..

well. the other ones have been carpeted. but i think i can handle some sanding as long as its nice out. and texture paint hides LOTS of imperfections. so i dont see that causing any problems for me.

the only thing i wanna make sure is i get nice rounded edges. i might glass\glue on some 1" PVC to the edges so they are nice and round - seems like a good way to get a uniform edge.

dunno yet. kinda cold for glassing here. we shall see.

Req..........

your idea will definatly work. And using textured spray will save some finish time.

And yeah, I did start with a factory console that the guy gave to me. It just saved him money and me time. But in the end, it is not the factory console is it?

As for your delima of the rounded edges, use a router with a 1/2" roundover bit. Maybe a 3/4". Depends on the amount of round wanted.

tis the problem of a lifetime. i dotn have a router //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

so ill have to find another way. prolly be alot of filling work because i need to get everything flush. i wish i lived in a warmer climate. fecking lkie 34 degrees today.

now what would be the fun in that.

i AM planning on buying a 'drop in - between the seat-er' but im gonna mod it so it fits to the ****** hump under the dash if you know what i mean.

there is seriously like one cubic foot in the ENTIRE front section of the car for storage (including a glove box that does NOT even fit the manual in without bending it)
