Running on one coil???

I have a 10" l7 dvc 4 ohm hooked up to a "Home theater in a box". If I wire it to 8 ohms there is nearly no output and if I wire it to 2 ohms the stereo cuts out. But when I Just hook up one coil it does fine because the stereo's minimum is 4 ohms. The stereo only puts out 85 watts to the sub channel and the sub is rated at 300 per coil. Will just hooking up one coil damage the sub in anyway with the power given?

No you can use one coil. The power handing is dropped to about 3/4 of rated so if the sub is normally 600 watts rms you shouldn't send it over 475ish. The electrical q of the driver will change too, so it may sound a bit different but with only 85 watts on tap it should still sound fine since you can't get it super loud enough to notice much anyway.

Yea, that's kind of what I figured. I thought about getting a cheap 300 watt plate amp with speaker line in's to power it. Seems like 99% of plate amps only go down to 4 ohms so I should be alright on just one coil. Right now it loves the lows being tuned to 28hz in 1.6 net.
