*Running Multiple Alternators*

Im setting up a dual alt system on my daily driver right now. I didn't upgrade the stock alt, I'm running from the H.O. alt straight back to the rear batts, and then wiring the amps to the rear batts with very short run lengths. I figured a dedicated 260 amp alt plus a couple Kenetiks would be sufficient for my 4kw setup, no need for the stocker to try and help too.

My confusion is in the grounds. The second alt and rear batts will effectively be their own circuit isolated from the stock wiring/circuits, but the second alt will chassis ground itself. The grounds from the amps can and will run directly back to a negative terminal on one of my rear batts, but with the second alt being chassis ground I suspect I need to also chassis ground the rear batts. I know I can and it wont hurt anything, I just dont like not knowing why. lol

My other problem is trying to figure out what the wires are on this stupid 4-wire alt I got from Iraggi, who never returns my inquiries. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

So I guess short story long... if it were me Id run through the front batt if you need/have upgraded both alts, so you gain the output of both. But if you dont need to upgrade the stock alt as well (and how many of us really need two h.o. alts? lol), Id run it straight back. *shrug*

Who needs 1000 horspower? NOONE:D

But with excess of 600amps draw, wouldnt two be the way to go?

My "but if you dont need to upgrade the stock alt as well..." comment wasn't directed at you or your specific needs.
If I were you, Id run 3. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif j/k

No i was just saying lol

I want 100 alts!!!!!!

now!

No I have not ran a dual HO Alt setup before.

It makes sense to run both on the same series of batteries. You have 2 HO alts correct? So running one to the vehicle needs only and then one to the batteries for the 'system' would make the Alternator running the vehicle with unnecessary amperage. But if you run both to your front battery you use both alt's 'high output' aspects.

Thats the terminology correct? Seems right to me. *shrug*
