*Running Multiple Alternators*

Im getting ready to purchase my alternators for the 87 Safari.

I will be taking the smog pump off, and replacing it w/ an excessive amperage alt. The stock alternator will also be getting replaced w/ and EA alt.

Now, for the second alt thats now inplace of the smog pump. Do I run the power wire from it to the front battery, or just straight to the rear batts?

Any educated suggestions are appreciated!!

strait to the rear, all you need is 1 wire to the starting batt from 1 or the other alt

Ok, will it be multiple runs form the alt to the back?

as long as you have 2 alts, 1 should go to the front battery, and the other connected to the batteries in the back using 0 guage.

But how many runs we talkn?

How many runs from the front batt to rear? How many from second alt to rear?

I've never run a dual alt set up myself, but I've heard that guys just run a single 0 gauge run from the front alt to the rear battery bank. If you were to run both alts to the front battery than you can add as many 0 ga runs to the rear battery bank as you can afford.

In the street classes we run as many as we can fit/afford. 6 runs of each is a good number.

If he only is running the 2nd alt to the batts in back, would it even be necessary to upgrade the stock alt since its just running the vehicle power needs?

right, unless you are running the BIG 350+ alts, run to the front then to the bank. 1/0 at that distance will be plenty good from alt to batt. To the back, you'll need to account for both alts and the battery current flow so go from there.
