Running Memphis MCI.4000 and 4kw together

I have an old memphis mojo 4kw and have a new memphis MCI.4000 on the way now. When i ordered the new amp i was under the impression that there were few differences in the two other than appearance. Im now being told that the two are totally different and cannot be strapped together. Is the true? If so would it still be possible to run them in the same system just not strapped together. ex: 4 12"s 1 amp to each set.
