Running large gauge wire?

Is it acceptable to run large gauge wire under the car and them into the trunk/hatch via a hole?I thought this was a nono but I am seeing a bunch of this from a area shop.

If you tuck it up un the frame and protect the ***** out of it it will probably be ok

Run it through PVC pipe then ya, otherwise, I wouldn't do it.
