I have a alpine cda 9855 and keep hearing about running active with it. How do I do this? I have a alpine type x components and am getting a kaption hc250.2 2 channel amp. Can I run Active with this setup, and as stated ubove how do I do this? I searched and couldent find a diy for this so I posted this. If I missed a thread that explains how to do this and someone could point me in the right direction, i would be more then greatful. thanks for any advice

well it all depends. if the person knows what he's doing, then potentially an active setup can be better because that person has knowledge of how well the speaker performs at certain frequencies. but if the person doesn't know what he's doing then he'll choose crossover pts and slopes that are completely bad for a speaker and hence the passive route for this particular invidiual would be better. IMO, its not hard running an active setup, you just need to know some basics first before doing it.

you could power the tweeters from the front output of the 9855 and use the rear rca's for the 2 channel that would be used for the mids till you got another 2 channel or a single 4 channel.

I did this with my 9835 till I could find my 4 channel ppi.

The 9855 is pretty easy to get set up to run active. You can as was already pointed out run the tweets off of the internal IC and the mids off of th external amp until you have a 4 channel amplifier. Where are you in Oregon? I'm in Eugene and I would be happy to try and help you with your setup if you would like.

im in salem, so not to far... thanks for all the input and offer to help, ill hit you up if i get stuck, still waiting on the amp to arrive...will 250rms be to much for each of the mids though?? I was worried about it being to much for the whole set. I was told by my friend at the shop i bought the speakers from that it wasnt to much for the type x components and it is all in the tune of the amp and head unit, is this true?

You might look for a small two channel amp then for the tweets. That will be a lot of power for your mids, you might want to gain them down a decent amount. Like I said though, any questions or if you're in the area drop me a line.

from personal expierence.....250 is WAY to much on sum type xs.......i run 75+ rms and its cutting it close

we have strickingly similar setups......9835, 6.5 type x's, 6x9 type rs and 1 type r 10"

i likle mine......
