running active setuup vs...

fist off, isn't running acitve for the front/rear stage better than using the crossovers than come with a componenet set, but I noticed alot of custom stereo setups, even the cars in audio mags. the installers still use the crossover that came with the comp. set. I understand the those crossovers are matched for the comp. set from the manuf. but isn't running active better? so why would you still use the crossovers? because i too am running crossovers that came with my boston acoustics proseries, but then its connected to my electronic crossover there after, the sounds are great, but is this wrong? thanks in advance for any helpful advice....
