running 2 different subs bad?

The theory: If I run 2 different subs, with 2 different amps, tuned in order to pick up only a certain range of frequencies, would they still interfere with each other?

The example: 1 PG 12" RSd in a sealed box given volume for SQ purposes. 1 PG Titanium Elite 12" In a ported box 2.5 cft, tuned for low response. Both hooked into a Pioneer DEH-980BT.

To show my PG Fanboiness, lets hook these 2 up to: For the RSd, it gets a Xenon 600.1, and the Elite gets a Titanium 1200.1.

The Elite would be tuned in to respond up to 65 Hz, and the RSd would be tuned to pick up from 65Hz to 115 Hz. From there, we could say a set of mid drivers picks up at 110 or so.

This is merely an example, I don't know exactly the best way to tune these drivers. The point is if you separate their responses, regardless of their respective outputs, could the 2 subs work in harmony?

Assuming you properly bandpassed them...yes, it would work.

The problem is; Why even bother ? Too much real estate, money and time taken up to do something that would yield margin benefits at best. Given the relatively narrow bandwidth that subwoofers play, most any subwoofer out there is capable of adequately covering the entire region. There is really little to no point in attempting to split it up amongst several drivers. The disadvantages FAR outweigh the potential advantages. It just isn't a smart or useful thing to do.

Man, there goes squeak pulling thoughts out of my head again //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

I agree 100%.

The only benefit I can see in doing this would be to increase efficiency. But not with two 12's, they would want to play almost the same frequencies.

What you could do is use an 18" driver for ultra-sub-bass, in the 20Hz-30Hz area for example. Then a 10" could pick up 50Hz. You would need less power since each sub would be operating in its optimum range. However, you would need two amps (or 2 channel amp) and an active crossover. These added costs alone would make it economically unfeasible. It could be done though, if one knew what one were doing.
