running 1vc of a 2vc sub

I do not see what you say it is bad to only use one voice coil on a DVC sub. I have been installing for 20 years and never heard that. I have NEVER had a problem with only using one VC.

I will give you that it is not the most effective way to use the speaker, but damage is not going to happen.

 
using a single vc wont damage the speaker itself but remember most dvc are rated rms by combined coils, your power handling will therefore be cut in half

not to mention it wont be as loud
