Just got my AB XD 12's, and was looking at this obtrusive rubber boot wrapped around the magnet of the woofer and all I could think of was DISPLACEMENT so I took them off I know it's miniscule the space I gained it wasn't so much the space I was worried about but why have it if it's not needed ya know?? But then I got to thinking why would they waste the money putting it on if it didn't need to be there, does it affect impedance or magnetism in any way ?? If so I'll put em back on no problem!

Protects the magnet, and cheaper companies put boots on to make their motor structures look bigger. Some people like that look.

It's rubber, so it doesn't have any affect on magnetism. Also, that didn't mean much as far as displacement

It's for looks as much as anything, maybe a little corrosion protection.
Wrong. Only if water/moisture is around it.

You really think a rubber boot is gonna prevent corrosion??

Water can get into anywhere/everywhere....even the smallest of places you, me, him can't see.

Yea, and the rubber boot doesn't even cover the metal on the motor.

Just covers the magnet to prevent chipping

SI makes nice subs. I'm an XBL guy myself, but I tend to listen to neutral/flat sounding drivers in general.
