in my room i have speakers hooked up like 6x9's and stuff just by running wire from the stereo to the speaker. But i tried to do this to a 12" sub and it didnt even do anything.

So im asking y it will not work is there not enough power getting to it or sumthing or do i have to have a different kind of wire im just trying to hook it up using plain thin standard speaker wire thanks

its a real bad idea to hook a car audio sub to a home theater receiver. most ht rec. are geared to handle 8 ohm loads and most car audio subs are 4 ohms or less. on top of that your sending a full range signal to to speaker that can only take from 23-200hz or so.

I used to have 2 mtx 12s hooked up in my room. I just used a car battery and hooked a battery charger up to the the battery and the car amp to the battery. It worked but didn't get as loud as when in a car.

ah----nothing like recharging a car battery in an enclosed area. extremely smart thing to do.
